About this event
On December 15, from 12pm-1pm at the Nebraska History Museum, Charlene Maxey-Harris and Lorna Dawes, co-leads of the Recovering Lost Stories: Digitizing the History of the Malone Community Center project, will share the progress of this three-year project from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Libraries and Malone Community Center to prepare, digitize, and share more than 6,000 unique, historically significant documents and artifacts of the African American Community in Lincoln. The collection includes Urban League reports and records, board minutes with stories of housing development, city planning, and land acquisition, and scrapbooks, photographs, and videos of community members, leaders, and politicians. Together, these materials highlight the strengths, achievements, and contributions of Lincoln’s African American Community.
Special thanks to the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation for providing funding for this event series and the recording to broadcast on LNKTV and on NSHS’s YouTube Channel .
